Defhouse: Where talent is born

Defhouse opens in Milan, the first Concept House in Italy and in the world where the inhabitants, young influencers, are continually stimulated to cultivate their talent.

The idea of collab houses, disguised as billion-dollar villas, breathtaking swimming pools and experienced by groups of influencers as protagonists, changes completely. And in the positive. No more stage-places where the only purpose is to give a show and create engagement: now the time has come to give substance, creating culture and depth, sensitizing the inhabitants of the house to important issues, so that the talents of the residents are stimulated and cultivated so as not to become just meteors that run out in a flash between a photo and a dance step. This is why Defhouse was born, a project signed by WSC®: the first Concept House in Italy and in the world that is not just a location but a real communication channel and a training hub.

A house where the protagonists are not the inhabitants but its style, its way of communicating, its environments and its desire to educate and sensitize the world of young people to important issues: the Defhouse speaks directly to the GenZ becoming an Academy of talent through its Instagram and TikTok profiles and on its YouTube channel. "The guys inside the Defhouse are not smarter than others but they are aware of how important it is to work on their personal growth", explains Luca Casadei, CEO and Founder of WSC® and continues: "The young people of this generation have a low attention threshold, they don't know much outside of social media and want to become famous: perfect ingredients to achieve a success that will evaporate in a flash without leaving any mark ". The first two unwritten rules that the boys accepted to enter the Defhouse are: nourish themselves with knowledge to learn to choose what future they want to live in, and leave pride aside in order to value every good thing that happens to them ". Giuseppe Greco, partner and creative director of WSC®, says: "The group of young people who live in the house is the result of careful and laborious research that lasted several months. We chose them after examining hundreds of social profiles for their artistic and complementary qualities. There are those who are good for dancing, some for singing, others for acting and so on. The choice was made not on the basis of their popularity or the number of followers on social networks, but because we saw in them a talent to be cultivated and the ability to function as a group, to contaminate each other and give a higher value to the Defhouse project. "

The Defhouse communicates through Defne: an indefinite entity that speaks to users and young people and identifies itself thanks to a strong aesthetic, poised between Luxury and Pop. At its entrance the living room opens up, surrounded by large windows where colors light up in the sofa, on the iconic Seletti armchairs, on the walls and in the accessories, with a ceiling characterized by clouds (by Magis) illuminated by neon: versatile light sources and of great charm protagonists in the Eighties that become the common thread throughout the house, transforming themselves into artistic writings on the walls or into the curious emoticons that identify the boys of the house. "We are in Milan, the cradle of the movements that have changed the way of understanding design: we are talking about Alchimia, Memphis which in the 1980s

transformed the approach to design", says Art Director John Pentassuglia who also oversaw the project of the Interior, with the technical support of the architect Emanuele Tresoldi of Tresoldi & Partners.

Saturated and fluo colors, "Instantfriendly", take up the brighter soul of the postmodern trend in a new light through objects and furnishings with a strong visual impact, used to capture the fleeting attention of social media. "The house is infact a large set, over 500 square meters, where every corner is characterized by bold and non-trivial graphics: like the corridor animated by the phosphorescent writings of Luca Barcellona, a world-famous calligrapher, who manages to bring together manual skills of an ancient art, such as writing, with the languages and tools of the digital age ”, explains the Art Director. There is no shortage of luxury environments, such as the veranda furnished with a hydromassage tub and a Jacuzzi sauna that becomes a relaxing corner inspired by oriental atmospheres. Going down to the rooms, the walls light up with graphics inspired by Memphis, a group created by the genius of Ettore Sottsass, who in the 1980s gave a kick to the rigor of rationalism with his crazy geometries and pure and eccentric colors. "An important lesson interpreted by the walls of the corridors of the stairs and, in fact, present throughout the house," says John.

The private part, that of the kids' rooms, is introduced by a corridor that marks the passage with light effects, almost dreamlike. The rooms are tailored to the personality of the residents and, each one, is defined by a supporting color: blue, gray, pink or red. Hyper-connected, the Defhouse thus lends itself, in every corner, to become the ideal set for producing content but it is not a reality show: the kids are free to go out and carry out daily activities, having only to respect the rules of good conduct and follow their studies with profit, in order to have and transmit ethically correct behaviors and become a model for their generation.

Not only that, the kids inside the house are continuously involved in training courses on artistic themes, such as acting and diction, on topical issues, such as ecology and sustainability, but also on modern professions. This training will thus stimulate the guests themselves to create content of a different level, together with the Defhouse, so that the GenZ generation, to which they are addressed, can see in them examples to cultivate their passions and expand their point of view. Because, as the great American composer Roger Miller said, “It's one thing to have talent. It's another thing to find out how to use it ".

Design by Adrenalina is increasingly green

The Italian brand launches a new version of its LEO sofa collection upholstered with SEAQUAL materials

For Adrenalina, the reknowned upholstery manufacturer, design and respect for the environment are a commitment, indeed. Sustainability and the need to reduce the impact on the environment, always keeping an eye out for new eco-sustainable materials available on the market, is leading the company to be increasingly "green".

The goal of achieving an increasingly circular economy in the upholstery supply chain is very close to Adrenalina's heart. Valentina Bigiarini, marketing and communication manager, stated that: "Upholstery is a field that still suffers from the massive presence of non-ecofriendly and non-recyclable materials as regards padding. For wooden structures, on the other hand, we only use FSC and Carb2 certified products, and for iron and steel parts we aim for proper disposal since the remelting of metals limits the opening and exploitation of new mines and therefore reduces CO2 emissions. All Adrenalina products can be easily disassembled and broken down to be conveyed to separate waste dumps at the end of their life cycle".

This is the spirit with which Adrenalina launches the new version of LEO sofas and armchairs, designed by Russian designer Daria Zinovatnaya and presented in summer 2020, now upholstered with the brand new Oceanic material by Camira Fabrics, a 100% recycled polyester fabric made of the plastic waste that pollutes beaches and oceans, the result of the SEAQUAL project, an important initiative involving brands from all over the world that aims at keeping seas and oceans clean.

The new high-tech material is also extraordinarily wear-resistant and available in a palette of soft and delicate pastel colors that perfectly match Zinovatnaya’s design. With its clever Oceanic upholstery made of recycled plastic, the LEO series becomes a herald of the protection of nature and the preservation of the environment.

Leo has an elegant and balanced physiognomy, in which the contrast between the rigidity of the tubular metal frame and the softness of the padded cushions is enhanced by the chromatic choices. These two elements that contrast and complement each other, blend and fit into each other, joined by fabric buckles that hook the soft parts to the metal structure along the edges of the seat cushions.

Daria Zinovatnaya’s stylistic code focuses on the relationship between color and geometry and draws inspiration from the artistic movements of the Russian avant-gardes of the early 1900s and from the postmodern design of the early 1980s. The "postmodernist" shape of the LEO series will fit smoothly into residential interiors and contract grade projects, meeting the needs of those who look for a corner to unwind and relax and those who appreciate comfort when held up in a waiting area.

Federico Delrosso designs a transparent container immersed in nature

Inspired by Philip Johnson's Glass House, the building was born from the ruins of a rustic house on the Biellese hills

CConceived with a minimal-naturalist approach, Teca House is a contemporary building born from a professional friendship between Federico Delrosso, Milanese architect and designer of Biellese origins, and the client, Alberto Savio, textile entrepreneur of the area.

The project, which consists of the recovery of a small rustic building in a splendid setting of the hills of Biella, is based on a compositional inversion intervention, which leads to the outside, dematerializing it, a small pre-existing rustic volume giving life to a new function in the area. From the "roots" of an agricultural past, now in disuse, signs of which are maintained, a contemporary work is born, rooted in the territory and in balance with it, but at the same time permeated with new possibilities of use.

The building, which takes inspiration from Philip Johnson's Glass House, has an area of about 80 square meters which extends by another 50 by opening the sliding glass walls that surround the volume. The flexibility of the project makes this space ideal for meetings or hosting a business cocktail, but it is also an intimate refuge for reading or practicing yoga. It can also become a guesthouse for occasional guests of the landlord and his wife who live nearby, in a villa located at the foot of the hill. Teca House was conceived as a precious cultural container, a landmark to create new possibilities of a relationship with the Biella area.

“In this project, the display case holds the man and his emotions. A privileged and poetic point of view, a total immersion in nature, almost as if the user were suspended in the void. At the same time, it works in negative: glance is raised from inside to outside, indicating human being centrality”. declares Federico Delrosso.

The relationship between the past and the present and the "opera" and context is balanced without altering the dimensional equilibrium of the site and enhancing the environmental value and becoming not only cultural but also a visual reference. The rural wall system becomes the base, the connection with the territory from which the new intervention is born, light and transparent: a structure in concrete that opens towards the landscape with two large horizontal wings and a completely openable glass layer that contains the volume.

The architectural system was created in the favor of correct solar contributions: the shape of the floors that extend beyond the glass case are designed to protect against summer solar radiation, favoring instead the winter one.

In addition to the recovery of the original stone from the rustic, sustainable materials have been used and left unfinished, such as the concrete for the structure and floors and the birch plywood for furnishings and coverings.

The sophisticated architectural and structural solutions, although not visible externally, have made it possible to integrate the building with high performing solutions and materials aimed at eliminating and correcting thermal bridges. The plant engineering alongside the insulation measures bring the building to energy class A4. The realization of an air heat pump single energy air conditioning system combined with radiant floor systems, and fan coils, the VMC system and the high-performance photovoltaic system, guarantee environmental comfort, throughout the year and with any external climatic conditions.

"When i purchased the small ruin and the ground where now rests the Teca House, i had no idea what it could have become.” Says Alberto Savio. “The confrontation with Federico Delrosso, with whom i hold a sincere professional and friendly relationship, his vision on architecture and the role that it can and must have, fascinated and pursued me to take the opportunity that this place had to offer: to be able to leave a sign that remained beyond my time and my family. With this sensibility i welcomed the project proposals. It was a challenge to accompany the creative process of federico: behind every detail there are drawings, thoughts, solutions discarded in favor of what has been realized. A correct, honest and astute approach. A great attention given to landscape, spaces, materials, and finishes. A sign becomes a dream”.

Project "Teca House" was presented at the "Time space existence" exhibition at Palazzo Mora, set up on the occasion of the XXVI Architecture Biennale in Venice 2018 and is the protagonist of the film on Federico Delrosso "Dreaming the Real" directed by Luca De Santis and curated by Davide Giannella, and presented at MDFF 2018.

Federico Delrosso designs a house at high altitude in dialogue with the Alpine landscape

in the Aosta Valley (Italy), located at over 2,000 meters high on the slopes of Mont Blanc in the La Thuile valley - Les Souches.

Federico Delrosso engages with the project of a house in the mountains, minimal and perfectly integrated into the Alpine landscape of the Aosta Valley (Italy), located at over 2,000 meters high on the slopes of Mont Blanc in the La Thuile valley - Les Souches.

The renovation project of a rustic stone cottage has produced a new compact architectural volume that enhances the expressive power of the dry stone primary structure, typical of high mountain constructions, here certainly reworked.

The building has the primary stone envelope that contains the roof structure, which discharges to the ground on the main front with a vertical scan. This, in turn, is continued on the rear floor with full-height windows that offer a spectacular opening to the mountain landscape. The orientation of the building offers the most astonishing views.

"The house was built adjacent to a project by the renowned Italian architect Carlo Mollino (Casa Olivero 1962) unique in the La Thuile valley. The design intervention could not ignore the dialogue with the work of the great master. I, therefore, focused on a more compact and contemporary form with a well-defined identity inspired by the landscape of the surrounding mountains " says Federico Delrosso.

Big success for FAMOUS BATHROOMS exhibition at Cersaie 2019

The Cersaie 2019 thematic exhibition FAMOUS BATHROOMS was a big success - Bologna Exhibition Centre - Hall 30 (23-27 September)

The Famous Bathrooms thematic exhibition curated by Angelo Dall’Aglio and Davide Vercelli, which featured 32 designer bathrooms inspired by famous historical figures and consisting of a series of sets testifying to the excellence of Italian Style, has posted excellent final results.

The exhibition is now an unmissable appointment for visitors to Cersaie and was attended by 10,000 visitors (including 27% non-Italians) and 200 journalists. With its cross-cutting appeal in terms of product types and exhibition experience, this year’s event was the sixth in the series and adopted a rather different approach while maintaining the same format. The two curators, Angelo Dall’Aglio and Davide Vercelli, chose a new and highly innovative exhibition model, a cross between a traditional trade fair and an art gallery where each set displayed a small number of carefully selected items.

Famous Bathrooms offered a free interpretation of the bathroom space inspired by people who have shaped history and have excelled in fields spanning art, culture, science, music and cinema – from the Beatles to Sigmund Freud, from Coco Chanel to Piet Mondrian, from Le Corbusier to Maria Callas. The underlying concept was that the bathroom is the realm of well-being, a place to be furnished and customised, as well as being the part of the home closest to the product sectors of Cersaie. Each individual slot was inspired by a famous figure and occupied by one of the 32 participating companies. The sequence of slots was arranged along a semi-circular path leading to the lounge area at the heart of the exhibition. The introduction of a central business area complete with work corners available for use by companies was much appreciated.

Again this year the programme of meetings offered plenty of food for thought. The official inauguration on the first day of Cersaie, ably conducted by the well-known art critic Philippe Daverio who enthralled and entertained the audience, was followed by the presentation of the ADI Ceramics & Bathroom Design Award and the first edition of the ADI Booth Design Awards; the conference organised by Matrix4design entitled “The new horizon of contract design” with Pierattelli Architetture and Spagnulo&Partners and the conference “The harmony of colour in architecture according to Feng Shui” with Stefano Parancola. As has become customary for a number of years, the thematic exhibition also featured in the Bologna Design Week with a portal present in the Quadrivio or Crossroads in Galleria Cavour , the heart of the city’s shopping district.

The exhibition was organised with the contribution of the Italian Trade Agency ITA.

ADRENALINA - Daria Zinovatnaya the emerging designer

Daria Zinovatnaya the emerging designer in the team that Adrenalina presented at Milan’s Salone del Mobile 2019

At this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan, Adrenalina, the company that has been manufacturing iconic and unconventional upholstered furniture for the last twenty years, presented the last two emerging and very talented designers with international renown who have joined its team.

The young Daria Zinovatnaya from St Petersburg in Russia, an interior and furniture designer with a style that focuses on the relationship between colour and geometry. Daria, who is also a very successful Instagram influencer, designed two series and a lamp: Roche, with its round and welcoming shape, and Mercury, which sports a bolder look.

ROCHE - A WIND-CARVED STONE LAUNCHED ONTO PLANET EARTH TO ILLUMINATE IT WITH BEAUTY

ROCHE is the series designed by the emerging Russian designer Daria Zinovatnaya, consisting of sofas, armchairs and poufs and, for the first time in the history of Adrenalina, of a lamp. The name ROCHE (from the French rock, stone) recalls the natural environment of the planet Venus that is mainly composed of petrified lava. The shapes of the elements that make up the series are soft, rounded and elegant, perfect to welcome in a warm embrace those in search of a relaxing break. Finally, the elegant and essential metal wall lamp completes the Roche series and opens up the door to the world of Light for Adrenalina. Daria Zinovatnaya’s striking design definitely catches the eye, successfully fitting into the spirit of the brand. ROCHE is inspired by Venus. The double personality of a planet that changes its colors according to the phases of its life cycle is mirrored in textured or extremely ductile materials, whose shades reflect the blue and yellow tones of the Morning Star and then fire up with the flaming orange hues of the Evening Star.

MERCURY - GEOMETRY AND COLORS FROM THE ARTISTIC VANGUARDS OF THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY

The series of padded upholstered items named Mercury is the result of free experimentation that draws its essence from the will to mix geometrical shapes with the overlapping curves, straight lines and bold colors typical of the vanguardist art movements of the early 20th century which designer Daria Zinovatnaya referred to in her project. Ignoring product logic and widely accepted design parameters, Mercury is a collection featuring a strong will to break away from any schemes, which is not an end in itself, but rather the contextualization of a vision of contemporary interior design in which originality is essential. The over-proportioned dimensions spell out a concept of comfort that goes beyond shapes and combines aesthetics with the usability of a piece of furniture that is to be the beating heart of everyday living geometry, the aesthetic essence that leads a free spirit, combines the creative urge with the need for usability in an elegant yet comfortable furnishing element. Mercury draws inspiration from the planet that gave it its name. Its colors land on Planet Earth, intensifying and merging with each other in a set of soft and textured patterns, to simulate the absence of gravity.

BIO DESIGNER

Daria Zinovatnaya, year 1992, was born in Crimea in Simferopol. Since early childhood she has cultivated her passion for design. She attended Art School, then the Academy of Architecture and soon after began to express herself with her design projects. Her works are based on colors and geometry, a combination of color planes. She focuses mainly on interior design, with particular attention to furniture, accessories and lighting.

LOST IN SPACE – 20 YEARS OF ADRENALINA

In 2019 Adrenalina celebrates 20 years of experimental and iconic design and shares this special milestone with the 50th anniversary of the first Moon landing. For its twentieth anniversary, therefore, Adrenalina gets Lost in Space, the element to which the brand has been so often and easily associated, especially in its early years, for its futuristic designs and the avant-garde drive that has always distinguished it in the upholstered furniture scene. The 2019 Adrenalina adventure in space travels the galaxy, attracted by its most colorful and fascinating planets. The journey winds through iconic upholstered artefacts that the designers shaped and coloured according to the Planet they chose as their muse: Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus and the Earth.

ADRENALINA - Luca Alessandrini, the emerging designers

Luca Alessandrini, the emerging designers in the team that Adrenalina presented at Milan’s Salone del Mobile 2019

At this year’s Salone del Mobile in Milan, Adrenalina, the company that has been manufacturing iconic and unconventional upholstered furniture for the last twenty years, presented the last two emerging and very talented designers with international renown who have joined its team.

Luca Alessandrini, a very eclectic Italian designer with an international background (London’s Royal College of Art and Imperial College) who is constantly looking for new eco-friendly materials. Bixib is the project that bears his signature, a series of armchairs and sofas made with an innovative silk and organic resin composite.

BIXIB - Design Luca Alessandrini THE UNPREDICTABLE THREE-DIMENSIONALITY OF SILK

The name of the set featuring sofa and armchair freely refers to the Latin name of the silkworm: Bombyx Mori. The palindrome narrates the geometry of upholstered artefacts that change according to the perspective from which you observe them: what is simmetrical from the front becomes irregular and multifaceted as the observation angle changes. Bixib rests on an innovative base printed in a silk and bio-resin composite: an ancient and precious material such as silk becomes a three-dimensional item through innovative lamination processes involving organic materials that have a lighter and lighter impact on the environment. Bixib draws inspiration from Mars, the red rocky planet: the lightness of silk trapped in resin is grafted with contrasting textured materials, from the full bouclé to essential and reassuring oblique stripes. Bixib comes in two basic versions: silk and organic resin composite or the more traditional chrome or RAL color-painted curved metal.

CERSAIE 2019 | Exhibition Famous Bathrooms curators Angelo Dall'Aglio e Davide Vercelli

Bathrooms inspired by famous people who have shaped history, where every set is a story testifying to the excellence of Italian Style

Famous Bathrooms is the title of the theme exhibition of this year’s Cersaie, the international ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings show to be held in Bologna from 23 to 27 September 2019. The exhibition staged in Hall 30 will have cross-cutting appeal in terms of product types and exhibition experience and will be a valuable addition to the cultural offerings of Cersaie. This year’s event, the sixth in the series, will adopt a rather different approach while maintaining the same format. The two curators, Angelo Dall’Aglio and Davide Vercelli, have chosen a new and highly innovative exhibition model, a cross between a traditional trade fair and an art gallery where each set will display a small number of carefully selected items. Unlike previous editions of the event, this year each company will have its own independent and clearly recognisable space which it is free to customise using its own logo.

Famous Bathrooms will offer a free interpretation of bathrooms inspired by personalities who have shaped history, from The Beatles to Sigmund Freud, from Coco Chanel to Piet Mondrian and from Le Corbusier to Maria Callas. Based on the concept that the bathroom is the place of well-being, a room to be furnished and customised according to the user’s own personal needs and tastes and the part of the home closest to the product sectors of Cersaie, Famous Bathrooms will present a series of bathrooms inspired by personalities who have excelled in their various fields – art, culture, science, music or the cinema – from classical times through to the present day. The result will be an ironic, fun and irreverent event that is sure to spark the curiosity of visitors, while the wide range of product offerings will offer plenty of ideas for inspiration. The focus of the exhibition will be the companies and their high-quality, timeless design products.

The exhibition will be introduced by art critic Philippe Daverio. Famous Bathrooms will be staged in a visually appealing space where each setting becomes an intimate and independent location that pays tribute to the excellence and innovative qualities of Italian Style. In the central area there will be a space hosting the programme of talks and a lounge area devoted to meetings, debates, award presentations and wine tasting. The partnership with the Bologna Design Week will continue this year, with a portal publicising the exhibition installed in the city-centre location of the Quadrivio (crossroads) in Galleria Cavour.

Following the success of the five previous events (CerSea in 2014, CerStile in 2015, CerSail Italian Style Concept in 2016, Milleluci in 2017 and The Sound of Design Italian Style Contract in 2018), which attracted a total of 44,700 visitors and 283 participating companies, the Cersaie 2019 theme exhibition will bring a group of selected companies into contact with an international audience of buyers and industry professionals in search of fresh creative inspiration.

Adrenalina at Milan Design Week 2019

Pad 10 booth C19 - Rho Fiera

Fuorisalone – Hotel Regeneration2 Lambrate

For its twentieth birthday, ADRENALINA, the upholstery brand famous for its iconic and unconventional design, returns to Salone del Mobile to amaze its visitors once again. This year ADRENALINA’s claim is LOST IN SPACE, which is also the name of its new collection. The setting of the stand will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the historical landing on the Moon of the Apollo 11 spacecraft (July 20, 1969).

Space has inspired the new upholstery collection - LOST IN SPACE - and a Space setting will display it. Each of the designers who work with ADRENALINA chose a planet - Venus, Mars, Saturn, Pluto or Neptune - to define colours and details of their creations.

Among them, ADRENALINA welcomes the young and talented Russian designer, Daria Zinovatnaya, who had planet Venus in mind when she designed the sofa, the armchair and the ottoman for the ROCHE line.

ROCHE

[sofa + armchair + ottoman]

design: Daria Zinovatnaya

ROCHE is the line inspired by Planet Venus. The soft rounded yet lithe shapes of its sofas, armchairs and ottomans sport Venusian hues - yellow and blue - the same that Planet Venus shows off at dawn and at sunset. ROCHE, French for rock or stone, refers to the petrified lava that covers the surface of this Planet.

The company: ADRENALINA

Adrenalina is freedom of expression, of dreaming aloud, and of coloring the imagination, through bold and innovative upholstered seating collections.

Care for technical details, great attention to comfort and softness and a look at the latest fashion trends shape Adrenalina’s philosophy. Adrenalina upholstered collections break the mold conferring uniqueness to the place that hosts them without compromising on comfort.

Adrenalina draws on the experience and wisdom of traditional craftsmanship combined with a constant search for innovative materials and the development of modern production techniques, while maintaining the character of an atelier where the desires of those who love to surround themselves with bold original statement-like design can be fully satisfied.

Adrenalina is the refuge of originality, a space where diversity is a value to be protected.

And the uniqueness becomes absolute with Adrenalina, which gives its customer the opportunity to customize products endlessly or develop exclusive limited-edition seats.

Adrenalina is a brand of Domingo Salotti srl, born in 1999 with the desire to conceive eclectic and innovative designs for upholstered furniture for commercial and residential use, reinterpreting armchairs, sofas and modular padded seating furniture as iconic and sculptural elements that, although stunning, are always extremely comfortable.

L&L | Luce&Light puts its stamp on the recent project of the WC Beautique Hotel in Lisbon

the work of the interior designer Nini Andrade Silva

Lighting fixtures from the Italian company L&L Luce&Light add the all-important final touches to the WC Beautique Hotel di Lisbona project, the work of the acclaimed Portuguese interior designer Nini Andrade Silva.

A building’s facade is unquestionably the primary expression of its personality, particularly if that building is a hotel. In the case of WC Beautique Hotel, set in a multicultural area of the city, skilful use is made of light to attract the attention of passers-by. Light2Life, the Portuguese team behind the lighting design, has succeeded in showing the whole building in its best light, enhancing the concept and the colour palette, so that, as soon as visitors cross the threshold, they are captivated by the uniqueness of the hotel, not least because the reception resembles an actual spa.

The enchanting use of lighting, with its transparencies and reflections, and backlit surfaces, creates a truly breathtaking effect. The fixtures used in the hall, corridors and restaurant are L&L Luce&Light Quad 6.1 ceiling recessed downlights, 6W, 5000mA, 3000K white light, with 56° adjustable recessed optics.

Both inside and outside, Light2Life have used a wide range of fixtures from L&L Luce&Light, specialists in lighting for architecture. Their design for the facade involves vertical beams of light, parallel to the hotel’s neon signage, and projected upwards, and for this the team has employed Kleo 2.0 outdoor projectors // 4000K, 20W, 16° sharp optics, in an anthracite finish. These beams are mirrored on the building’s ground floor by others directed downwards, produced by Kocca 1.1 wall-mounted fixtures // 4000K, 8.5W, 230Vac, with diffuser, in anthracite. Their pared-down design means they are perfectly camouflaged in the architecture.

The horizontal underscores are created using River Wall 1.2 surface-mounted linear profiles // 4000K, 10W, diffuse light, length 520 mm.

The external lighting is completed with Lira 1.0 step lights // 4000K, 6W, with asymmetrical optics, and the low-power recessed fixtures Bright 1.0 // 3000K, 2W, 40° and Bright 1.1 // 3000K, 2W, 10°.

L&L Luce&Light lights the new facade of Gotha Cosmetics

Project by iarchitects

As part of its project to renovate and extend the headquarters of the cosmetics manufacturer Gotha Cosmetics in Bergamo, the iarchitects architectural practice has chosen lighting fixtures from L&L Luce&Light to light the new facade and some of the outdoor areas.

The project arose from the need to create new spaces to accommodate the company’s current expansion, and focussed on expanding the office area, redeveloping the production area, and creating a new entrance and showrooms.

“Our work on the design led us to include a showroom building in this highly industrial setting, to set the visitor areas apart from the operational zones,” says the architect Pietro Perego, partner at iarchitects and project manager for this undertaking.

The new structure, which is connected to the office area, houses the customer-facing areas and becomes the company's new iconic entrance, a striking landmark that stands out in the flat industrial landscape that surrounds it. The imposing yet ethereal “cube”, raised up from the ground, brightens its surroundings with a playful chromaticism provided by the RGB light. The effect calls to mind the luxurious elegance of the company’s cosmetics packaging. To highlight this, and to supply the colour variations, the Neva 5.2 // RGB linear profile from L&L Luce&Light was used with 22°x42° elliptical optics. These fixtures illuminate the cladding fabric that covers the entire facade and help to create continuity between the offices and the production areas.

The perimeter of the structure is lit with NEVA 2.2 profiles using white light.

Finally, L&L Luce&Light fixtures, in the shape of FLORI 1.0 projectors, were also used to light the outdoor areas: the space in front of the distinctive new entrance, and the terrace.

Aesthetics and performances at the service of water

Guglielmi Rubinetterie, historical Company present since more than 60 years in the taps sector, exhibits at The Big 5 in Dubai - International Building and Construction Show, the trade fair specialized in the construction world.

Rooted in North East Piedmont, surrounded by the provinces of Novara, Verbania and Vercelli where about the 40% of this Italian production sector is concentrated, Guglielmi has pursued since 1954 a single great goal: making the tap a design masterpiece joining both aesthetics and performances.

A long experience in the tap world places the Company among the main players in the field. All Guglielmi collections are conceived, developed and manufactured in Italy and undergo strict quality controls. Patented to ensure exclusivity, all models are technically unique. The product range for Bathroom and Kitchen is suitable to every need and style: from the most luxurious to the latest shapes, from the minimalistic to the traditional and evergreen ones. The main thread and priority of all Guglielmi production is the technical competence, aimed at the creation of models with high attention to every aesthetical and functional design, in strict compliance with international approvals.

Guglielmi boasts numberless records and patents: from the first single control system to heat water for shower, patented by the founder Armando Guglielmi in 1954, to the first single lever mixer with system patented in the ‘60s to the brand new products such as the PURA kitchen series, manufactured with cutting-edge materials, finishes and design, approved, patented and 100% Made in Italy.

PURA: more performances, a single tap

Pure spring water, in the name of environment and sustainability, for a better quality of life.

In Dubai Guglielmi introduces PURA – Spring water, synonymous with sustainability and environmental respect. PURA totally removes wastes resulting from the purchase of bottled water. Every year 22 billion plastic bottles are thrown away. PURA system assures a considerable savings of efforts, money and encumbrances. With PURA it will no longer be necessary to buy water bottles because the simple rotation of a control provides micro-filtered water ready to drink: upsetting new concept in tap sector, both in the domestic and professional field.

PURA improves the taste of water and drinks such as coffee and tea, optimizes recipes where water is one of the basic ingredients, allows to fill pots or cups with water at 100°C to cook or even sterilize objects such as feeding bottles.

GZERO: the leading character in the bathroom furniture world

Another prestigious news introduced in Dubai is the GZERO collection for the Bathroom ambiance, to enrich the range of high-end products. Its peculiarity is the possibility to match shapes, accessories and ceramics but above all the customization of the cover materials, available in stainless steel, Oxide Bianco and Oxide Moro stone and Corian®. A total look that allows the GZERO Concept to become an absolute protagonist in the bathroom furniture world. Eco friendly by vocation, the GZERO taps are based on independent and isolated internal channels, able to prevent water coming into direct contact with brass or nickel, in total respect for health and environment.

COMPANY PROFILE

Guglielmi: Water design

Since 1954 the Guglielmi family is devoted to an ancient and difficult craft: giving shape to water, the most elusive and unseizable element among all ones. Founded by Armando Guglielmi under the name of Rubinetteria Valsesiana, the company debuted in 1954 with the first single control system to heat water for shower, patended by Armando Guglielmi. Several other records have followed: the first tap to heat water for washbasin and, in the 60’s, the first Vetor thermostatic mixer and the first single lever mixer with patented system. The first Mixor single lever mixer with ceramic discs is introduced in the 70’s, until the 90’s when the Click Clack® cartridge guarantees a lower consumption of both water and energy, to reach in 2016 the innovative projects Pura and Gzero. Guglielmi Rubinetterie is based in Grignasco, a town in Novara province in the important district of sanitary taps, located among Novara, Verbania and Vercelli. It is a manufacturing district rooted in metalworking since the Middle Age. The passion of the sons Orazio e Orfeo, born from their father Armando in the small village of Valduggia, has never waned. They are moved still today from the strong will to turn a tap into a design masterpiece joining both aestethics and performances.

L&L architectural lighting Casa sul Parco Fidenza

Casa sul Parco in Fidenza (PR) – architectural lighting and energy efficiency in the city’s historic centre

L&L Luce&Light, an Italian company that specialises in the production of LED lighting fixtures, has provided the lighting in the outdoor areas of the Casa sul Parco (literally the house on the park), a housing complex in Fidenza’s historic city centre that features the highest possible levels of living comfort and energy efficiency.

Casa sul Parco is the fruit of the entrepreneurial vision of Montanari Costruzioni, who created the complex, entrusting the architectural project to DelBoca + Partners and to the architects Simona and Giovanni Rossi. It is a residential complex composed of ten housing units that are cutting edge in terms of their architecture and energy use. The building has received both passive house certification from Passive House Italia and active house certification from Active House Italia. The housing complex has also been recognised as a Multi-Comfort building by the French multinational Saint-Gobain, is one of the projects shortlisted for the Active House Awards 2018, and was selected to participate in the exhibition “Comfort in Mostra. Progettare, Costruire, Rinnovare l’architettura italiana” (Comfort on show. Design, construct and renew Italian architecture), organised by Saint-Gobain Italia in the Urban Center in Milan, in spring 2017. Casa sul Parco also participated in the selection of projects to exhibit during the current Venice Architecture Biennale.

Rada Markovic, the lighting designer responsible for the lighting project, had to come up with a lighting scheme suitable for the three zones of different heights and sizes that make up the building complex. The façade lighting has been designed to provide different power-on modes and optimise efficiency and the system’s power consumption. There are four available scenarios: Evening (active from sundown to midnight), Courtesy (active from midnight to dawn), Nighttime Passage (50% reduction in brightness and activation of some safety lights) and Daytime. The lighting fixtures are controlled with a DALI system and connected to a controller with a brightness sensor so that the light intensity can be adjusted to reach a preset value (photos 1, 2 and 3).

The portico, located under the zone that houses the vertical connections, features slanting pillars that support the building and recall the trees trunks in the park next to the complex. Recessed around the foot of these columns are Bright 2.4, 5W, 4000K fixtures with ±15°-

adjustable optics for atmospheric lighting. The lighting project for the portico is completed with more of the same model of fixtures recessed into the ceiling and installed in the Zen garden. The access ramp and stairs are lit by low-power Bright 1.0 fixtures with a colour temperature of 3000K (photos 4, 5, 6 and 7).

For the terraces and gardens with containers that surround every apartment, Rada Markovic Lighting Design Studio decided to use the same fixtures as in the portico, Bright 2.4 from L&L, recessed into the wooden slatted flooring. The lighting in this area is finished with Spot 2.1 projectors, 3000K with 38° optics, fixed on stakes in the containers. Their light beams are directed on the vegetation to create shadow effects on the perimeter walls of the building complex (photos 8–19).

The rear of the building is flanked by the ramp leading to the garages: recessed in the paving are L&L Bright 6.8 13W fixtures, with a stainless steel trim, and screen in tempered, transparent extra-clear glass. The asymmetrical optics that characterise this model direct the light emission onto the building's outer perimeter wall (photo 20).

Julia Marmi Piasentina Stone project

The Piasentina stone new projects presented at Cersaie and at The Sound of Design exhibition

Julia Marmi, the historic Italian company specialized in the extraction and processing of Piasentina Stone, a unique stone material, extracted exclusively in a small north-eastern area of Italian Friuli, returns to Bologna Cersaie, the fair of ceramic tiles, bathroom furniture and equipment and wall coverings with new projects and artefacts.

At the new stand of Julia Marmi in pad 29 were shown the results of Fifty Design Competition, banned by the company last July to celebrate 50 years of activity. The prototype of the winner, the basin Colosso/Fifty by architect Luca Maci and the other 4 finalist projects, including the special mention, the sink EYE 2018 by designer Pier Paolo Zanchin, have been exhibited. The award ceremony took place in the exhibition The Sound of Design, at the Hall 30 of Cersaie.

Because it's related to Cersaie, the awarded projects, as required by the competition, are intended for the bathroom or wellnes area and enhance the characteristics of the material: strength, workability, particular chromaticity that varies depending on the surface work.

More, at the Julia Marmi stand, doubled in size, was shown Mont, a massive 2 meter long counter, with the front in Pietra Piasentina with a "quarry split surface" and the flamed surface that welcomed visitors to the stand - design by Davide Vercelli who also designed the set-up. Vercelli also designed Centrino, a circular wall decorative element - with a diameter of 80 cm and a thickness of 1 cm - which has a perforated decoration that "lightens" the brushed surface of the stone.

Continues the collaboration with Tideo Design, specializing in surface decoration project, which proposes the Piasentina Consolle with a metal structure and the polished and micro decorated Piasentina stone top.

Also by Tideo design, RITORNI – RETURN, covering line composed of a collection of graphic decorations on brushed stone, presented at the Cersaie 2017.

Also on show is the outdoor fountain for men and animals Milli, designed by Angelo Dall'Aglio and Davide Vercelli, in solid chestnut wood, Pietra Piasentina hand-made and brushed in the parts in contact with water, and copper cane for the water.

The company took part again to the group exhibition of Cersaie entitled The Sound of Design, curated by Angelo Dall'Aglio and Davide Vercelli and presented at Hall 30.

COMPANY PROFILE

Julia Marmi, a historic company set up in 1967 in Cividale del Friuli (Friuli Venezia Giulia is the far northeast region of Italy),   specializes in the extraction and processing of Piasentina stone. The material, extracted exclusively in a small area of the north-eastern foothills of Friuli, has excellent technical and aesthetic characteristics. In fact, it is used for both interior and outdoor areas, floors and walls, and for building items of furniture. The area in which Piasentina stone is extracted is a narrow strip of the Julian Prealps located near Cividale, in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Julia Marmi is the most important owner of active Piasentina stone quarries in this area. It has three, giving it an excavation availability of 1,500,000 cubic meters.   The name “Piasentina Stone” comes from an anecdote of Friulian origin, according to which the major clients from Udine described it as “una pietra che la piase”– “a material that is liked”— very highly valued for its physical and aesthetic attributes. Julia Marmi is part of the Consortium of Producers of Piasentina Stone, formed in 1965 for the protection and development of this product, and to provide services to companies and designers. Julia Marmi has carried out important projects in the contract sector. These include Marella luxury retail stores throughout the world, designed by Archcalo Design studio of architect Angelo Calò, Radetzky, a trendy venue in Milan designed by Studio Alberto Re and the LUMA hotel in New York.

The collective exhibition THE SOUND OF DESIGN at Cersaie 2018 was a big success

Italian Style Contract - held at Cersaie 2018

The Sound of Design - Italian Style Contract was the title of the collective exhibition organised at Cersaie, the international ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings show held in Bologna from 24 to 28 September 2018. Hosted in Hall 30 of the Bologna exhibition centre, the collective exhibition celebrated its fifth edition this year while remaining faithful to its longstanding focus on the world of contract furnishing and the excellence of Italian Style. Music and design are both the result of a creative act, they stir emotions and break down barriers, explained the two curators Angelo Dall’Aglio and Davide Vercelli, who with The Sound of Design demonstrated that while music and design are both timeless they can equally well adapt to current trends and fashions and generate new ideas.

A total of 6,641 visitors, including 5,586 Italians and 1055 international attendees, converged on the mysterious 720 square metre booth whose walls displayed an iconic photo of the members of the rock group Madness in single file. With a layout that remained concealed from outside, the booth was divided into 10 sets devoted to various contract sector spaces including an outdoor spa, the bedroom of a B&B, a restaurant/lounge bar and a library, all arranged around a large dance floor inspired by the legendary Studio 54 in New York.

Music and videoclips accompanied visitors to The Sound of Design on an emotional journey exploring the flexibility and characteristics of the displayed ceramic tiles and bathroom furnishings, the real highlights of the exhibition. The music, chosen in collaboration with the media partner Radio Capital, was drawn from the years from 1976 to 1983, a tumultuous period marked by an unprecedented mix of diverse musical genres that also had a major influence on the world of design.

“As in previous years, we wanted to create an appealing, hospitable and stimulating venue that would engage all the senses. The resultant space proved ideal for hosting thought-provoking meetings between visitors and the approximately forty participating companies and showcased all the products to maximum effect. The focus on contract furnishing made the 2018 event especially popular amongst professional visitors, Cersaie’s main target audience.”

The calendar of events held in the arena proved highly popular, from the official opening on the afternoon of 24 September to the presentation of the ADI Ceramics & Bathroom Design Award 2018, the meeting with architects Teresa Sapey and Matteo Nunziati organised by Matrix4Design, the presentation of the Houzz & Home 2018 renovation market trend survey and wine tasting. Last but not least, the live broadcasts from the Radio Capital booth brought the exhibition to the attention of a wider audience beyond Cersaie.

As part of the ongoing collaboration with the Bologna Design Week, an eye-catching portal publicising the exhibition and featuring a mini-spa concept and a spectacular waterfall was officially opened on Wednesday 25 September in the Quadrivio of Galleria Cavour in the city centre.

The Sound of Design also had a live web and social media presence thanks to the online programme Isola Social organised once again by the magazine Il Bagno Oggi e Domani in close collaboration with design bloggers Carlotta Berta (unprogetto), Elisabetta Mattiello (MaisonLab), Simona Nurcato (BesideBathrooms) and Nora Santonastaso (design outfit) and with the participation of the Italianbark international blog team coordinated by Elisabetta Rizzato.

The Sound of Design is an event promoted by Edi.Cer. Spa, Bologna Fiere and Promos s.r.l. and organised by Promos s.r.l. during Cersaie 2018. Curated by Angelo Dall’Aglio and Davide Vercelli, it is held from 24 to 28 September in Hall 30 of the Bologna Exhibition Centre and in the Quadrivio of Galleria Cavour in the city centre during the Bologna Design Week from 25 to 29 September.

L&L Luce&Light mark out the façade of the Bergen Børs Hotel in Norway

Lighting fixtures from L&L Luce&Light mark out the characteristic façade of the Bergen Børs Hotel in Norway

Once again, L&L Luce&Light fixtures have been chosen, this time to illuminate the façade of the Bergen Børs Hotel in the Norwegian city of Bergen. Originally housing the old stock exchange, the building, which dates back to 1862, was recently renovated by the renowned Swedish architecture and design studio Claesson Koivisto Rune, while the lighting project was developed by the Norwegian lighting design studio Zenisk. Given the building’s historical significance, and the fact that it is a major landmark in the city, the work of lighting its façade was of primary importance.

Bergen is a rainy city, and the natural light is often diffused through the clouds to envelop its buildings in grey. However, on sunny days the façades of the buildings reveal an eye-catching chromatic composition. The lighting project was therefore aimed at reproducing the façade's colours as if it were lit by sunlight, even on dull days.

In addition to this, the idea was that it should not be obvious at first sight that the building is a hotel, and that passers-by should be attracted by the masterly warm lighting that underlines the uniqueness of the façade, perfectly integrated into its urban setting.

The Bergen Børs Hotel overlooks a square surrounded by three other historic buildings. The façade lighting is a vertical gesture that strengthens the three-dimensional perception of the space and, at the same time, helps produce a comforting sense of security and spatial orientation.

Working in close collaboration with the architects and the client – De Bergenske, who own several luxury hotels in the city – the lighting designers have created an extremely elegant solution that highlights the contrasts in the materials and architectural elements, and perfectly reflects the hotel's refined interiors. Rather than completely light the entire façade, they have created a careful composition of horizontal and vertical elements so that the shape and volume of the building are easily recognizable. An intelligent use of light and shade ensures that, at night, the building is perceived as an organic whole whose entire outline has been redesigned.

Zenisk chose L&L products for the façade because they offer the perfect solution in terms of compact dimensions, precision optics and quality of light. As this is a historical building, the fixtures’ presence in the façade must be pared back and minimally intrusive. In addition, the use of precision optics substantially reduces light spill.

A mix of L&L devices was used to light the different architectural elements: powerful linear profiles – Neva (3000K, 25W, 12°x40°, 616 mm) and Neva Mini (3000K, 9W, 12°x 40°) – were used to foreground the surfaces of the vertical pillars, horizontal frames and exposed red bricks.

At the same time, Trevi linear profiles (3000K, 6W, 313 mm) have the function of completing and harmonising the light intensity. For the gable in relief above the main entrance, the frames above the windows and to outline the columns, Zenisk used Spot projectors (1.0 // 3000K, 2W, 20°), which produce a contrasting light, throwing these elements into relief to theatrical effect.

We were looking for compact and reliable products capable of precisely highlighting the historical façades while integrating perfectly in them,” said Zenisk.

THE SOUND OF DESIGN - Italian Style Contract - Cersaie 2018

Bologna 24/28 September Pad 30. Music becomes the soundtrack to a timeless design

The Sound of Design - Italian Style Contract is the title of this year’s collective exhibition at Cersaie, the international ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings show to be held in Bologna from 24 to 28 September 2018. Hosted in Hall 30 of the Bologna exhibition centre, the collective exhibition celebrates its fifth edition this year while remaining faithful to its longstanding eclectic approach with a focus on the world of contract furnishing and the excellence of Italian Style. Music and design are both the result of a creative act, they stir emotions and break down barriers, explained the two curators Angelo Dall’Aglio and Davide Vercelli, who with The Sound of Design aim to demonstrate that while timeless in nature, music and design can equally well adapt to current trends and fashions and become a driver of new ideas.

The soundtrack accompanying visitors as they explore the exhibition comprises a series of songs released between 1976 and 1983, hits that gained in popularity over the following decades to become timeless icons. That tumultuous period was marked by an unprecedented mix of diverse musical genres including rock and disco, pop and heavy metal, electro, punk, reggae, ska and hip hop – an explosion of creativity that was not limited to music but also extended to the world of design. Suffice it to think of the role played by design in influencing the creation of musical instruments of the times or how music served as a model for avant-garde designers, shaping the conceptual and spatial development of their ideas.

The Sound of Design is divided into 10 different thematic sets with dedicated music and videos, each of which uses Italian ceramic and bathroom furnishing products to create distinctive exhibition spaces. “The space is organised in the form of an elongated arena to enable visitors to view the entire exhibit from any position,” explain Angelo Dall'Aglio and Davide Vercelli. “We wanted to offer them an emotionally-engaging experience in which they feel they’re at the centre of everything. The exhibition is held within a 720 square metre rectangle, but its spatial distribution remains concealed from the outside. At the centre we have recreated a dance floor inspired by the famous Studio 54 in New York, and facing this the booth of Radio Capital, the partner in the initiative which broadcasts live on air.”

The musical soundtrack, together with images and videoclips from the period, accompanies visitors on an emotional journey exploring the flexibility and characteristics of the displayed products.  The music further enhances the experience for visitors as they discover the quality, versatility and performance of the ceramic and bathroom furnishing products, ideal for a wide range of applications in the contract furnishing sector.

“As in previous years, we wanted to create an appealing, sociable and exciting space that engages all the senses, a place that promotes stimulating meetings between people and the participating companies and displays each individual product to maximum effect. The focus on contract furnishing will make the 2018 event especially popular amongst professional visitors, Cersaie’s main target audience.”

Following the success of the four previous events (CerSea in 2014, CerStile in 2015, CerSail Italian Style Concept in 2016, Milleluci in 2017), which attracted a total of 39,800 visitors and 243 participating companies, the collective exhibition of Cersaie 2018 brings together a selection of high-profile companies and an international public of buyers and professionals constantly in search of new creative ideas. Collaboration with the Bologna Design Week will continue this year, and in the city centre an eye-catching portal publicising the exhibition will be installed in the Quadrivio (crossroads) in Galleria Cavour featuring a mini-spa concept and a spectacular waterfall. Musical videoclips from 1976 to 1983, selected in collaboration with Radio Capital, will provide the musical backdrop.

The Sound of Design also has a live web and social media presence thanks to the online programme Isola Social organised again this year by the magazine Il Bagno Oggi e Domani in close collaboration with design bloggers Carlotta Berta (unprogetto), Elisabetta Mattiello (MaisonLab), Simona Nurcato (BesideBathrooms) and Nora Santonastaso (design outfit) and with the participation of the Italianbark international blog team coordinated by Elisabetta Rizzato.

The ICONIC AWARDS 2018 reward L&L

The ICONIC AWARDS 2018 reward the innovation of the Palladiano lighting fixture family from L&L Luce&Light

An important new international award has been added to L&L Luce&Light’s path of excellence. The company from Vicenza, in north-east Italy, specialists in LED lighting for architecture, has won recognition in the Product category of the prestigious ICONIC AWARDS 2018 – Innovative Architecture for its Palladiano fixtures.

Supported by the German Design Council, an independent German organization that promotes design and architecture at an international level, the Iconic Awards particularly reward excellence in innovation and the ability of the selected products to deliver innovative and cross-cutting solutions, stimulating cross-fertilisation between different disciplines in design and architecture.

The Palladiano system of lighting fixtures has all these characteristics: it features an innovative design, great flexibility of application and an array of accessories that offer an especially wide range of lighting possibilities. The system was designed by Consuline, the lighting design studio founded by Francesco Iannone and Serena Tellini, and is inspired by the architectural principles of Vicenza’s celebrated 16th-century architect Andrea Palladio, based on the golden mean as a proportional ratio between the elements. With a tagline of “the lighting all-rounder”, this family is extremely versatile: a single lighting fixture can be used in 5 types of application: it can be mounted on walls, ceilings, bollards or poles, or used as a projector. Its design is linear and harmonious, the movement of its articulated arms and adjustable optics provide exceptional flexibility, and it comes with a rich array of optical accessories, making it ideal for a wide variety of design applications. Indeed, by combining its optical accessories (colour filters and shadow-effect filters: forest, rain, water, etc.), Palladiano can create atmospheric lighting effects that call to mind the natural dappled effect of light shining through foliage.

Palladiano’s technical characteristics

The lighting fixture consists of a plate with 8 high-intensity power LEDs and has a magnetic anchoring system to enable quick and easy positioning of the optics: 15°, 24°, 38°, 54°, 14°x56° and 15 street optics. Its shape is characterised by semi-circular arms that can be adjusted in 30° steps and which support optics that are adjustable through 336° to direct a beam of 2700K, 3000K or 4000K white light.

L&L Luce&Light is an Italian company that specialises in the design and production of lighting systems using LED technology for indoor and outdoor applications. Internationally renowned and respected in the lighting design sector, L&L has realised many exceptional projects around the world. Among the company’s main strengths are the high quality and reliability of its products, which are entirely developed and produced in its factory in Vicenza. Plaster Coatings by PLASTEREGO

An Italian Brand rooted in the Gypsum Craft Tradition

Plasterego is an Italian brand with a strong artisan undertone, specialized in the production and installation of surface coating and interior plaster products in general. Thanks to its consolidated know-how, gained in over 60 years of history and by means of research into the material and its aesthetics, Plasterego has helped to rejuvenate the image of gypsum, which is no longer exclusively linked to classical decorations – cornices and false ceilings – but also to architectural features integrated into contemporary projects.

Plasterego aims to preserve the original characteristics of the product as it once was while exploiting the search for new technological solutions to improve the production processes and quality as much as possible. Incidentally, gypsum is a natural material, originating from manufacturing processes with no negative impact on the ecosystem, and is completely fireproof, making it suitable for public spaces. This is not to overlook the wholesomeness of the material, the sustainability of the products built, and its ability to add quality and well-being to any environment.

Coatings are an important part of Plasterego’s products, which can be custom-made — installed and finished on site — or from the catalog — modular panels of various sizes and textures and continuous panels, which enable the creation of seamless surfaces.  The application of these coatings is ideal for luxury retail and contract projects, as well as domestic spaces.

An encounter with Giorgio Zaetta, an attentive and very experienced architect and designer, has yielded one of the company’s latest creations: Exagon, continuous modular plaster coating consisting of the random repetition of staggered hexagonal components, created for .pico, a research project involving design, architecture and art, conceived by Zaetta together with ZERO Gallery… and recently presented at the 2018 Fuorisalone in Milan. In the Exagon project, Giorgio Zaetta was inspired by a visit to the Albergo Diurno Venezia in Milan and by the basalt columns of the Giant’s Causeway in Ireland. He thus designed a plaster coating with an impressive and innovative morphology, creating a richly tactile surface, like that of natural gypsum, and, at the same time, an intriguing play on reflections and shadows that “dress” the surface with extraordinary magnificence and bring out the artisan qualities of the product.

Other continuous coating panels made by Plasterego are Eden, with a more classical flavor, characterized by a flowering branch that runs along the wall, and Shore, which is inspired by the ripples of the sea.

Lighting project by Italian company L&L Luce&Light

The Pernod Ricard University campus in France – a new outdoor lighting project by Italian company L&L Luce&Light.

L&L Luce&Light, the Italian company specializing in the manufacture of LED lighting fixtures, has provided the lighting in some of the outdoor areas of the new training centre created by Pernod Ricard, the French drinks giant. Designed by the French architect Cyril Durand Behar, the Pernod Ricard University campus is a high-tech training centre stretching over 6500 m2 and structured around four areas of activity: work, relaxation, accommodation and conviviality, represented by as many different architectural structures. Four, too, is the number of the principle materials used in the project: stone, wood, concrete and metal.

The project has gained the BREEAM certification as “Very Good” because it embraces the concepts of sustainability that make it architecturally cutting edge in terms of technology, energy efficiency and respect for the environment. The learning centre – the Chai – is undoubtedly the symbolic heart of the project. Its structure seems to disappear into its setting, thanks to the purity of its forms and the chosen materials: the reflection of the surrounding nature on its mirrored façades creates the effect of extending the park, playing as it does with the light and the scenery.

In the walkways around the outside of this building, the Parisian lighting design studio Distylight, which was responsible for the overall lighting project, used the Plin 1.1 bollards from L&L Luce&Light. The 12W Plin 1.1 fixtures, with a 3000K colour temperature, finish in cor-ten (photos 2, 3 and 4) and diffuse optics, are characterised by a simple, minimal design. The head containing the light source is tilted by 45°: the resulting controlled downward beam avoids light dispersion. The other application of L&L Luce&Light fixtures is in the outdoor walkway next to the reception, housed in the structure known as “le Prieuré” (the Priory). Here, 6W Litus 2.0 uplights have been used (photo 1). These fixtures have 7° optics, a colour temperature of 3000K, and a cover entirely in glass, with no visible screws.

Gea collection presented during latest Salone del mobile 2018, is a tribute to Gea della Garisenda and to 18th-century wing chairs. The armchair with wings – which were originally meant to protect from draughts and retain the warmth of the fireplace – has passed through three centuries of history.

GEA knocks on the doors of contemporary living with a futurist version of the classic Wing Chair whose "en cabriole" legs typical of the Louis XV style, get to be streamlined, elongated and tapered: it’s almost a change of identity to get ready for a journey through space.

THE SOUND OF DESIGN - Italian Style Contract - Cersaie 2018

Collective exhibition

THE SOUND OF DESIGN - Italian Style Contract - Cersaie 2018

Music will accompany visitors on an emotional journey through timeless design.

The Sound of Design - Italian Style Contract is the title of this year’s collective exhibition at Cersaie, the international ceramic tile and bathroom furnishings show to be staged in Bologna from 24 to 28 September 2018. Held in Hall 30 of the Bologna exhibition centre, the exhibition celebrates its fifth edition this year while remaining faithful to its longstanding eclectic approach with a focus on the world of contract furnishing and the excellence of Italian Style.

The soundtrack accompanying visitors as they explore the exhibition will consist of a series of songs released between 1976 and 1983 which have established themselves over the years as timeless icons. That tumultuous period was marked by an unprecedented mix of diverse musical genres such as rock and disco, pop and heavy metal, electro, punk and reggae, ska and hip hop, an explosion of creativity that was not limited to music but also invaded the world of design. Just think of the role played by design in influencing the creation of musical instruments of the times or how music served as a model for avant-garde designers, shaping the conceptual and spatial development of their ideas.

The Sound of Design will be divided into a number of different sets, each of which will use Italian ceramic and bathroom furnishing products to create distinctive exhibition spaces. The musical soundtrack, together with images and videoclips from the period, will accompany visitors on an emotional journey exploring the flexibility and characteristics of the displayed products.  The music will further enhance the experience for visitors as they discover the quality, versatility and performance of the ceramic and bathroom furnishing products, ideal for a wide range of applications in the contract furnishing sector. A national radio channel will also play an important role in promoting the exhibition and organising one of the sets.

Collaboration with the Bologna Design Week will continue this year, and in the city centre a portal publicising the exhibition will be installed in the Quadrivio (crossroads) in Galleria Cavour.

The XILO collection by HOM to heat and furnish in a contemporary home

A new generation heating accessories designed by Davide Vercelli to heat, dry, furnish and save energy in the contemporary home.

The Xilo, it’s made from solid Lebanon cedar, which gives off a fragrance and is stable and moisture resistant. MaxiXilo is a customized version, tailored in size and power, and therefore adaptable to any environment. The technological core of all HOM products is a special sintered tile that retains heat for a long period of time and releases it slowly. This patented technology (owned by Rotfil, European leader in the production of electrical resistance heaters) is the most advanced system in the field of low-consumption electrical heating (when turned on, it uses 0.1 kW/h, corresponding to about €0.02 — for the heating accessories) and was created as a result of three years’ research carried out by the designer and the company in collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino (Polytechnic University of Turin). The whole range of products can be found at the booth. They have been created using ancient materials, such as ceramic, or natural and durable materials, such as Lebanon cedar, and are equipped with HOM low energy consumption technology (sintered tiles), thanks to which they become heating accessories (power from 50 to 200 watt) for clothing, towels, food, cosy seats or veritable electric radiators (250 watts and up). Their “natural environment” is the home and their understated elegance works well in the Contract sector.

Company profile. The first HOM collection was launched in 2013 following around three years of experimentation carried out by the designer Davide Vercelli with the company Rotfil (owner of the technology and of the HOM brand), in collaboration with the Department of Materials Science of the Politecnico di Torino. The HOM brand is owned by Rotfil, Italy's leading manufacturer of electric heaters. Founded in Piedmont in 1977, today Rotfil is a group of six companies: Rotfil Srl, (Italy, head office), Jeka GmbH (Germany), Rotfil NA sarl (Tunisia), Termax sarl, (Tunisia), Infraker sarl (Tunisia), and Elmat Srl (Italy). The company's core business is the manufacture of electric heaters, temperature sensors and controllers for industrial applications. www.homwarm.com info@homwarm.com

Davide Vercelli. Born in 1966 in Varallo (Vercelli), Davide Vercelli graduated in engineering then carried out a research project at Turin Polytechnic before embarking on a career as a designer. He has always been fascinated by design culture, by the way in which design, technology and production, communication and marketing strategies come together in the development and promotion of a project. Over the years he has collaborated with companies in a range of sectors, including lighting, home accessories, radiators, surface coverings and bathroom design. From 1999 to 2007 he developed the corporate concept of Ritmonio and became its creative director. In 2010 he founded the furniture brand Liberostile (www.liberostile.it). In 2013 he created and curated the Aggregàti format devoted to the contract furnishing and wellness sectors, one of the key collective events at Cersaie 2013 which was repeated on a smaller scale at Goodesign - Fuorisalone 2014. He has been involved in a number of training programmes in collaboration with institutes and universities (including Milan Polytechnic and IED). He has won numerous international awards, including five selections for the ADI Design Index, two for the Compasso d’oro, two Young & Design and Design Plus awards, a first prize in the IDA (International Design Awards) and a Good Design Award. He is the coordinator of the Abitare thematic committee for the ADI Design Index and a member of Atelier dell’Innovazione. In May 2015 he became the creative director for new product development and communication at Fima Carlo Frattini, a leading tap manufacturer. www.davidevercelli.it

Plasterego presents .pico a plaster cabinet for contemporary art

Plaster micro-architecture for contemporary art, designed by Giorgio Zaetta with ZERO... gallery

.pico is a plaster cabinet for a single work of art, designed by architect Giorgio Zaetta in collaboration with ZERO... gallery of contemporary art and produced by Plasterego, an Italian brand that has its roots in the artisan plaster tradition.

In the Statale university courtyard, as part of the exhibition event House in Motion, organized by INTERNI magazine, an original exhibition concept has been created, in which alternate works by contemporary artists can be admired. During Milan’s Design Week, three works – by Cally Spooner, Enzo Cucchi and Yuri Ancarani – will each be displayed for 48 hours. At the same time, it become a snug and cozy refuge for visitors to the event during the frenetic days of the FuoriSalone. A tribute to Pico della Mirandola, scholar and outside-the-box experimenter (1463-1494), .pico is designed for collectors seeking new ways to exhibit their artworks and one-off items.

With .pico museo domestico, Giorgio Zaetta gives plaster a new image that goes beyond the conventions that identify it solely with traditional stuccos and false ceilings, by fully integrating it in the contemporary project. “By stressing the gypsum to its technical limits, thanks to the technological expertise of this historic company” — Plasterego with over 60 years of experience — explains the designer, “we’ve created a three-dimensional cladding of offset hexagons which can form a continuous plaster wall covering (as in prefabrication)”.

The morphology of the plaster cladding was inspired by a visit to the Albergo Diurno Venezia in Milan, designed in the 1920s by architect Piero Portaluppi and still intact today. Zaetta’s research focused on the existing surfaces and, in particular, on the hexagonal tiles that distinguish this elegant and richly charming place. Then, Irland Giant's Causeway basalt columns too.

“In an attempt to open the eyes and minds of the public regarding materials and awareness of the gestures by means of spatial-temporal experimentation that takes into account the emotional dimension of the individual”, continues the designer, “we enter a hybrid territory where factors such as care, in-depth analysis, and attention seek possible forms and functions.

With this work, Zaetta is in tune with a company like Plasterego, which aims to preserve the original characteristics of the product as it once was, while exploiting the search for new technological solutions to improve the production processes and quality as much as possible.

Gypsum is a natural material, available in nature and derived from manufacturing processes that do not have a negative impact on the connected ecosystem. The result is that the cladding of this

cozy domestic museum has an amazing material texture and an ethereal appearance that plays on light and reflections to give the whole installation dynamism.

Stoneland Collection of precious household objects in marble and metal

Il brand StoneLab Design ha presentato al Fuorisalone 2018 Stoneland la collezione di preziosi oggetti per la casa in marmo e metallo.

Fuorisalone - Brera Design District

StoneLab Design brand presented the Stoneland collection of precious household objects in marble and metal at the Milan Design Week 2018

Milan Design week - Brera Design District

StoneLab Design, a home furnishings and accessories brand, created in 2017 by Martelli Marmi and MarmoForniture, two companies operating in the stone industry for 50 years, presented a new collection at the Brera Design District – Milan Fuorisalone. The refined STONELAND collection includes delicate and precious lamps and accessories of marble and metal, created with art director Tagmi design studio.

The new STONELAND collection is inspired by the shape and the action of stone working tools. Nails, tubes, pulleys, pierce and shape the material and become structural or complementary elements that embellish it. They are the leitmotif of a journey to discover a domestic home panorama revisited in marble: the classic tin with metal cap, the chandelier, the vase, the corkscrew.

Thanks to StoneLab Design stone material skills, the design studio Tagmi, founded by Danilo Leonardi and Valentina Antinori, has been able to identify for this collection a rich palette of rare and precious marbles and has successfully applied several techniques of marble processing. This partnership is joined by Ganci Argenterie, a historic Milanese company, leader in silverware craftsmanship.

The collection consists of: the 4season cans; the Barocco tray; the Block candlestick; Bugia and Candela table lamps; Peso coffee table; the Pestone mortar; the Rosone trivet; the Contrappesa suspension lamps; the Sottosopra upstand; the Lastra cutting board; the Tradition vases; the Cava bottle opener.

Adrenalina Lost in Nature

The Adrenalina collection presented at Salone del Mobile 2018

The Adrenalina collection for Salone del Mobile 2018 is a wonderful journey into the discovery of nature. The common thread is, once again, strong, powerful colours, in all their hues, which evoke the aurora borealis, fiery sunsets, tropical seas, carefully and stylishly sampled in the new Adrenalina "Lost in Nature" catalogue. Bold color combinations match refined fabrics by Kvadrat, Pierre Frey, Svensson, Vescom, Delius, Camira, Sirtori, Casamance.
The shapes of the upholstered furniture are linear and sharp, but also sinuous and soft. Comfort and attention to sartorial details are a must for Adrenalina!
Adrenalina’s large team of designers widens with a new partner, Andrea Stramigioli. He contributed to the project of this new collection with his Sir-Pent design, joining a host of long-standing collaborations: Antonio Piciulo with the Morebillow line; Giovanni Tommaso Garattoni with Gea and Big sofa, and Italo Pertichini with the new version of the highly acclaimed Sly.

MOREBILLOW sofa+armchair, design: Antonio Piciulo

ADRENALINA
